The best food centric cafes in London
Cafes to make you happy and enveloped in hygge
Who can resist a salted caramel and honeycomb doughnut from Bread Ahead, whether for breakfast, lunch or tea? The good news is that we no longer need to dribble cream down our chin in Borough Market. We can now enjoy the definitive doughnuts in the comfort of Bread Ahead's beautiful new Soho cafe/bakery painted in the most uplifting shade of blue.
Alongside those doughnuts, there's a build your own porridge bar for breakfast, plus eggs every which way served on, as one would expect, brilliant sourdough bread. Come lunchtime, there are vibrant salads, soups, croque monsieur and adventurous sandwiches. The focaccia is outstanding. Then, for dessert, drool over the choice of pastries. Breton Kouign Amann is absolutely on trend: made by layering bread dough with butter and sugar until it’s crunchy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. Irresistible.
Bread Ahead was started by Matthew Jones and Justin Gellatly ex head baker of St Johns in Borough Market in 2013 They have changed and exalted our expectations of bakeries in five short years.
