The London Design Festival districts you simply have to visit
LDF 2017 is finally upon us: the biggest design event of the year, where London shines as the design capital of the world. Every year it's a thrill, but it's also fairly overwhelming.
There are hundreds upon hundreds of events to choose between all happening within the nine official districts over the capital: Brompton, Chelsea, Islington, Clerkenwell, Shoreditch, Brixton, Mayfair, Pimlico Road and Bankside.
While the major highlights are a must, there are a great many smaller local events too that shouldn't be missed. Click through our gallery for your essential guide to each LDF district
The original Design District, Brompton, is home to a number of leading museums as well as global retailers and brand flagships.
The V&A – the main hub of this year's festival – is at the very heart of the Brompton Design District. The V&A's current blockbusters, including Balenciaga and Pink Floyd, are enough of a draw at any time of year, but on no account should you miss Reflection Room by Flynn Talbot, an LDF special. Pick up a little red book from the entrance hall detailing the V&A's extensive programme, so as not to miss the highlight events. Don't miss the V&A's shop, either – LDF's official outlet.
Elsewhere in Brompton, Peter Pilotto presents an installation of eclectic objects including paintings and sculpture in the sumptuous interiors of a grand Victorian house at 3 Cromwell Place, and Dutch Designer Hella Jongerius discusses her extensive research on colour theory during a one-off talk at the Design Museum (19 Sept, 6.15pm), on the occasion of her current exhibition Breathing Colour.
