The best London restaurants from the year so far
The London restaurant scene shows no sign of slowing down. Big name chefs and restaurants from all over the world have their eyes on us.
The places that are serving up the most interesting and inventive food in town right now are not only the high-end, glamour places, though we love Ella Canta, Jean-Georges Restaurant at The Berkeley and ultra-hip The Cub. Small, quirkier finds giving British ingredients the global treatment are thrilling us too.
Here are eight
essential places to try: a mix of those still under the radar and those where
booking well in advance is essential.
In a nutshell: This French café/brasserie in a Bermondsey park hut offers a sublime 5 course Poulet de Bresse menu
Fans of Hervé Durochat’s Casse Croute will instantly recognize his style. While breakfasts are top-notch – we love the decadent, sourdough prosciutto Croque Monsieur – the crowd-pleaser is undoubtedly their rotisserie meats, the centrepiece of which is Poulet de Bresse. A breed of chicken raised in eastern France, Poulet de Bresse has been hailed 'the king of poultry, the poultry of kings'.
At Pique-Nique, Poulet de Bresse, is served as croquettes, parfait, consommé, and is cooked on the rotisserie with morels; the eggs are used in a definitive chocolate mousse. There’s beef en croute and joy of joys, retro crayfish vol au vents too.
It’s a must for Francophiles.
