The best London restaurants from the year so far
The London restaurant scene shows no sign of slowing down. Big name chefs and restaurants from all over the world have their eyes on us.
The places that are serving up the most interesting and inventive food in town right now are not only the high-end, glamour places, though we love Ella Canta, Jean-Georges Restaurant at The Berkeley and ultra-hip The Cub. Small, quirkier finds giving British ingredients the global treatment are thrilling us too.
Here are eight
essential places to try: a mix of those still under the radar and those where
booking well in advance is essential.
In a nutshell: Asma Khan's all female home cook team serve dazzling food with the warmest welcome in town
Previously existing as a supperclub, Asma Khan’s bold, homely cooking and her philanthropic commitment ensure Darjeeling Express deserves its rave reviews.
The cooking is bold in flavour and unpretentious. With everything from bhel puri to spinach pakoras made with mustard greens grown by retired Gurhka army personnel and beef momos (dumplings), there is something for every palette. The dum biriyani is the real deal cooked with love, and is often served on the Sunday menu.
Price: Dinner for two with drinks: £80.00
