To coincide with the centenary of the Russian Revolution and the Saatchi Gallery’s Art Riot: Post Soviet Actionism, theatre company Les Enfants Terribles (the masterminds behind Alice’s Adventures Underground) have collaborated with Pussy Riot’s founder Nadya Tolokonnikova to create Inside Pussy Riot, an immersive re-telling of the post punk art collective’s harrowing yet powerful story.
Pussy Riot film made by Canvas, the first Art Community on YouTube. Check out more art from Canvas here.
Starting with Pussy Riot’s 2012 performance of Virgin Mary Put Putin Away and taking the audience through the horrors of the Russian justice system, the play will plunge the viewer into the realities of incarceration and the cost freedom of expression still holds in many parts of the world today. A 'blisteringly political production' according to co-producer Alexandrina Markvo, this is a unique opportunity to stand in the dock and put yourself in the shoes (or balaclavas) of the women who took on church and state in the name of human rights.
Funded by a wildly successful kickstarter campaign, Inside Pussy Riot will feature Tolokonnikova in a selection of the shows during its six-week run.
