At Islington Town Hall Hornby will discuss his new novel Funny Girl, which he has described as his attempt “to rewrite history and create a British Lucille Ball"
About Nick Hornby
A book chronicling a football fan’s obsession is not something that immediately inspires thoughts about what other works of literary genius the author might produce. Football fans, perhaps unfairly, do not have that reputation.
Nick Hornby (Arsenal aficionado), however, is no ordinary football fan and no ordinary writer, as readers of his aptly titled auto-biographical Fever Pitch can attest. Elegantly and amusingly capturing the essence of the madness that makes a true fanatic, his powers of insight were in no doubt.
Since that 1992 breakout, he has written a number of novels, often to great critical acclaim. Three of them, About A Boy, A Long Way Down, and High Fidelity, have all been made into films.
