Electronic Theatre, which opened its first site on South Bank in October, offers a new digital-led group entertainment experience. Somewhere between an escape room and a virtual reality (VR) arcade, Electronic Theatre sees teams of up to six participate in interactive games and challenges. Players put on a visor attached with sensors and enter a LightBox adventure pod, a spacious room equipped with a range of technologies, such as projection mapping, touch screens, motion tracking and surround sound devices. The walls of the room light up with the projection as you enter the simulated world of the game you have chosen.
Unlike most immersive VR experiences and arcades, Electronic Theatre's pods are designed to be used by groups. Without bulky headsets or goggles, you are encouraged to move around the room and work as a team to complete the challenges.
Founder Will Dean envisaged Electronic Theatre with the same idea of team spirit at the heart of Tough Mudder. While the obstacle race pushes groups of participants to the limits of their physical endurance, allowing them to share in the accomplishment of completing the challenge together, Electronic Theatre allows players to bond through a shared challenge as well as through shared play.
Dean declares his mission to use technology to bring people together, 'making screen time social again' and describes Electronic Theatre as 'a video game for people who don’t normally play video games.
With friends, family or colleagues, assemble your team and come on down to Electronic Theatre for an unforgettable immersive experience.
