One of Copenhagen's most popular pizzerias, Mother Pizza, has opened a London branch, with pizzas that combine simple Nordic design with rustic Italian pizza ingredients.
Their 'mother dough' pizzas became popular in Copenhagen in 2010 when their initial Mother Pizza restaurant opened in the city's foodie Meatpacking district. Over the past seven years, Denmark residents have become used to queuing for the restaurant's signature pizzas, which are made with sourdough and purified seawater – a back-to-nature dough with a complex flavour, which is both lighter and healthier than the majority of other pizzas.
Now, the brand has opened a London follow-up restaurant near to the river at Battersea, with a generous outdoors eating space that is perfect for enjoying the last of the summer sun.
From the olive oil to the mozzarella, Parmesan and salami, Mother Pizza's ingredients are imported from independent producers in Italy. The London menu includes Burning Love (mozzarella, potatoes, fried onions and røget spæk), Pizza Porcella (tomato, mozzarella, organic sausage, and porcini) and a prosciutto-topped pizza, alongside a selection of classic Italian pasta dishes.
A careful selection of Italian wines are served to compliment the pizzas and, at weekends, a walk-up brunch is served where guests to help themselves. A special Aperitivo alla Milanese is also served on Fridays between 5 and 6pm. This tradition, nearly a century old, is a pre-dinner drink with a buffet-style selection of snacks.
