Sushi and sashimi, udon and izikaya: how to do Japan in London
Japanese soul food, Kyushu-style ramen, courtesy of Masterchef winner Tim Anderson is a must for adventurous diners.
This is comfort food with punchy Asian flavours. Try chicken karaage with its crunchy chilli and salt coating.
The curry goat tsukemen is also great. It comes in two bowls: one containing the curry and the other a firm ramen, half a tea-pickled egg and chilli-spiked bamboo shoots. The brave should opt for pig's tripe with lime miso pickle. We also like cavelo nero served with yuzu and garlic chips.
It's not the most comfortable of dining at high stools and it is quite noisy and spartan, yet the lively and refreshingly different food makes it well worth a trip to Brixton. There's a good list of shochu, sake and Japanese craft beers too.
Price: £55.00 dinner for two with drinks
