Literary legend though he is in 1843, Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) has hit a cash flow problem. It's six weeks before Christmas, his latest book is a flop, and no one will publish his next one.
Battling demons without and within, Dickens begins to slip dangerously into the world of his own imaginings as he writes what will become one of the greatest Christmas stories of all time: A Christmas Carol.
The cast is appropriately nostalgia-inducing; Christopher Plummer (i.e. the dishy Captain Von Trapp) will play a cranky Scrooge, alongside recent Game of Thrones star Jonathan Pryce, and the delightful Miriam Margolyes.
Oh, and Simon Callow, of course – who’s ever heard of a Dickens movie without Simon Callow? He’s played him seven times.
So be sure to mark 1 December in your diary – no Scrooges here, please.
