Get a taste of conceptual art with six-course French feast, served inside Turner Prize-nominee Yinka Shonibare’s East London studio space – and brought to life in the spirit of French writer, photographer and artist Sophie Calle.
The ‘interactive participatory menu’ is framed by an amuse bouche of Squash Panna Cotta with Pear ‘Caviar’, which appears first as ‘savory’ and then again at the end of the meal but as sweet petit fours. Each dish combines failsafe French cuisine (Onion Soup, Confit Partridge Leg, Lamb Noissette) with little flashes of excitement (Pea Dust, Purple Basil, Smoked Coconut). We predict a visual spectacle, with an emphasis on bold singular colour in each dish in keeping in Calle’s Chromatic Menu photo series.
Through each course, taste, sound, smell and imagination merge for a multi-sensory exploration of Calle’s creative process, drawing out the themes of her art, then recasting such ideas in our own digital context.
It's certainly the artiest supper club the city has to offer and with Nomad Project’s track record for culinary quality, the food should live up to the ideas behind it.
Those inspired by Calle’s photography will be please to note that snapping away on smart phones is actively encouraged and may well feature as part of the ‘interactive games’.
The one-off supper club has unfortunately sold out, but make sure to follow Yinka Shonibare on instagram for updates on this unique culinary event.
