The best of Photo London, Somerset House, 2018
Photo London, the UK's largest selling exhibition of the best (and the worst) photography from all over the world, is back.
Now in its fourth year, the glamorous fair has, once again, taken over the whole of Somerset House for four days. There's an embarrassment of riches on display – more than 118 galleries are exhibiting – and certainly no way to see everything.
So, we've selected a few highlights. From new installations by stage-set designer Es Devlin to Nickolas Muray's Frida Kahlo prints, these are the must-see works at Photo London 2018.
Huxley-Parlour Gallery has staged a special exhibition of nine female photographers, all of whom explore contemporary femininity and female identity in their work. But the real draw here is Australian photographer Petrina Hicks. Her candid photographs, referencing mythology, art history and the idealised nude, examine how we reconcile past and present in contemporary image culture. Her subtle palette, soft contouring and juxtaposition of the female nude with ancient objects make her images stand out from the rest.
