The best of Photo London, Somerset House, 2018
Photo London, the UK's largest selling exhibition of the best (and the worst) photography from all over the world, is back.
Now in its fourth year, the glamorous fair has, once again, taken over the whole of Somerset House for four days. There's an embarrassment of riches on display – more than 118 galleries are exhibiting – and certainly no way to see everything.
So, we've selected a few highlights. From new installations by stage-set designer Es Devlin to Nickolas Muray's Frida Kahlo prints, these are the must-see works at Photo London 2018.
Phil Shaw's meticulously curated 'bookshelf' prints 'interrogate the changing place of the printed word in a digital age'. The depicted books are carefully arranged so as to tell hidden narratives; individual titles merge to form unexpected connections. The more you look at them, the more they reveal. Shaw's hyper-saturated, hyper-real prints are created using a specialized eight-colour printing process on fine-grade Hahnemuhle paper. Rebecca Hossack Gallery is among Photo London's first floor exhibitors, so make sure you head up Somerset House's Nelson staircase to see them; they come as a welcome reward after the climb.
