Roald Dahl's books have inspired countless adaptations, most recently the live-action adaptation of The BFG directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Mark Rylance as the titular giant.

The author's widow, Felicity Dahl applauds the move to Netflix. She said: 'Our mission is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories. This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible'.
Production on the series begins in 2019, which means we'll be waiting a while before we see any chocolate factories, levitating cakes, or stacks of snozzcumbers.
