But he’s not just involved, he is the advert. Watch it below.
We start with the famed musician sitting at his piano, somewhat sombrely, in his lavish sitting room next to a Christmas tree. He starts playing, the keys reflected in his iconic tinted glasses, and drifts backward through the highlights of his musical life – before concluding at childhood, and receiving a gift-wrapped piano by his mother on Christmas Day.
This two-and-a-half minute spectacle cost a total of £7million, much of which contributing to TV slots and Sir Elton’s paycheck.
Despite the desirable soundtrack and dazzling visuals and nice tone, this year’s John Lewis advert doesn’t really represent the spirit of Christmas. It serves better as an early trailer for Elton John’s new biopic, or a tease for his 2020 farewell tour. Much of the ad doesn’t feature Christmas, harping back to it every so often.
However, it's still an enjoyable spectacle. Who doesn't like a bit of Elton?
