King Lear: Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson and Andrew Scott to star in BBC adaptation

All hail the BBC: there's a new TV movie coming to our screens based on Shakespeare's King Lear, and it has a jaw-droppingly starry cast.

Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson are headlining, their first collaboration since the early 90s' The Remains of the Day (an adaptation of a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, who recently won the Nobel Prize for literature).

They will be joined by Andrew Scott, who is famous for his role in Sherlock and also hot off another Shakespearian stage as his role of Hamlet comes to an end. Among the cast is Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers).

King Lear is thought to be set in the fictional present and will be broadcast on BBC Two in 2017. The TV show is lead by Richard Eyre – the director best known for Notes on a Scandal.
