CATEGORY WINNER 2017, BEHAVIOUR: BIRDS
The Australian brush turkey is one of an extraordinary handful of birds – the megapodes – that incubate their eggs in a warm mound of decaying organic matter. Only the males oversee incubation, and in this photograph taken near Sydney, a brush turkey can be seen piling on more insulation to raise the temperature of the mound.
