A key player in the American Abstract Expressionist movement taking place in the first half of the twentieth century, Pollock is best known today for his drip paintings created between 1941 and 1950. Although he swiftly abandoned this style at the height of his fame, they are today the most sought after (and expensive) of Pollock's work.
This painting, with thick drips of brown and yellow paint was created on an 8' x 4' sheet of fibreboard, is a signature Pollock work.
It is believed to have been sold in a private treaty to David Martinez, managing partner of Fintech Advisory Ltd, in 2006 for around $140 million.
