The Wild Game Co., Charlotte Street
Wild Game Co. can proudly call themselves one of the best pop ups in London. Now the Scottish foodies have a long-term residency on Charlotte St.
After four incredibly successful years promoting the best in Scottish game around central London,The Wild Game Co. is bringing its superb menu to Charlotte Street in Soho this winter.
It's easy to see why the group took home the 'Street Food of the Year' gong from 2012's Young British Foodies Awards, with their seasonal menu that includes venison steak, a slow-cooked venison stew and the delicious 'Veni-Moo' burger, a double-patty (one beef, one venison) sensation topped with beef bacon and béarnaise. Delicious fries and a squash-based salad option (with optional venison carpaccio) complete a fantastic lineup that remains incredibly well priced, topping out at a very reasonable £12.50 for the steak.
Their new Charlotte Street site was formerly home to the long-standing and much-loved Double J's Cafe, which sadly had to close its doors for the last time earlier this year. In taking over the spot, the Wild Game Co. have taken the opportunity to return to their roots, mounting stag heads and butchers hooks on the walls and ceiling above the space's original hardwood floor to make for a rustic, authentic interior, complimented by their inch-thick wooden serving platters.
With winter drawing in, it feels like just the right time to warm the cockles with hearty, well-sourced game, and at the price it really is an absolute steal. And be sure to pick up a jar of the superb 'Rubies in the Rubble' chutney on the way out!
