The best date restaurants in London
What makes a restaurant romantic? Of course, it depends on who you’re asking. Candles, cosy alcoves, the right music and, of course, delectable food are a good start. What about open fires, stunning views and even aphrodisiacs?
Here's our pick of the city’s most romantic restaurants so you can decide for yourself.
Umu
The sliding, touch-activated, wood panel used to enter Umu is so discreet and adorable that you may walk past it several times. It really feels like time-travelling to the Kyoto of yesterday as chef Yoshinori Ishii serves the most exquisite kaiseki multi-course, ultra-seasonal menu with a phenomenal mix of texture and techniques. He takes his food very seriously indeed. The top-grade sushi and sashimi platter is a work of art. So are the ceramics on which the two Michelin star food is served, mostly made by the chef himself. The dark wood interior has flattering mood lighting and is pleasingly film noir.
