Selfridge’s rooftop reinvents itself yet again with an Italian trattoria restaurant, Il Tetto, translating unsurprisingly as 'the roof'. The exciting news is that the chef, Luca Terraneo is from L’Anima (where he worked with one of our favourite chefs Francesca Mazzei before he moved to Sartorial). So we can expect classic yet contemporary Italian food, robust yet with high finesse. There’s also a wood-fired oven for pizza and grills, almost de rigeur now.

For wintery days, there’s a hearty minestrone with black cabbage besides lighter antipasti. Homemade pasta includes our favourite pumpkin ravioli with robiola sauce and crisp sage. Among secondi, wood-fired Barnsley chip, seared fennel and white onion sounds promising. Indulgent creamy Italian desserts always seem more justifiable come winter days. Gianduja chocolate mousse with crunchy caramelized hazelnuts sounds divine.
What could be better for staying toasty warm when venturing outside than a hot cocktail bar? Inzolia white wine, ratafia, brandy, honey and roasted cardamom hot toddy sounds the perfect beverage for a windswept rooftop. Besides hot cocktails, there's an extensive choice of negronis. Il Tello will be open for afternoon tea too. Sounds like a cosy dolce vita date spot.
