A love letter to the culinary double-act that is bread and butter. Who knew this basic foodstuff had such a rich and varied history. Besides secrets and little known hunks of information, there are all manner of global sweet and savoury recipes featuring the classic pairing.
Bread and Butter is written by a cook (Eve Hemingway), a butter maker (Grant Harrington of Ampersand Butter Culture) and a baker (Richard Snapes of Bermondsey's The Snapery Bakery) – all people who passionately care about their dough.
Recipes for the intrepid include bone marrow butter, besides that most important item for this time of year: bread sauce. Also featured are brioche, butter-pudding and Italian anchovy-centric bagna cauda (popular in Northern Italy as a New Year celebration dish).
