And the importance of the flowers in Japanese culture is deeply embedded in their symbolic value – the blossom is considered representative of the transience of human life.
But you don't have to fly to Japan to appreciate the beauty of cherry blossom season. We've rounded up the best places to spot the blossom in London this spring. Depending on weather, the season generally spans from March until May.
