Now there's a new crime to investigate in St Matthews Church in Bethnal Green. The Unholy Marriage of Slice and Sweetly transports audiences back to 1955, where war time secrets stay under wraps, rivalries run deep and gangsters rule the close-knit community.
East End gangster Jim Slice was supposed to marry his sweetheart Sweetly on 13 July 1955. But before the wedding ceremony could commence, the priest Reverend Gris was stabbed to death. Despite suspicions and suspects, the murder is still not solved…
So it is up to you to don your finest 50s attire and examine St Matthews Church and graveyard for clues to help find the killer.
Over three hours, broken into three different sections, you will work in small groups to gather evidence and de-code the crime. First you watch over the fateful events of the wedding, then you take on the role of detective, before finally combining the evidence to reveal the truth.
The production has been created especially for the church and surrounding space, drawing on local history and popular fiction from the era to add authenticity.
