Now Londoners can experience real-life Monopoly in a live-action immersive production based on the beloved board game. Game-makers Hasbro and Selladoor theatre company have joined forces to create a 75-minute adventure where teams will face a series of challenges as they navigate the opportunities and pitfalls of the Monopoly 'board'.
Will you buy up the board or save your cash? Can you collect a set and start stockpiling houses? Or will you get sent to jail? While wily landlords and unexpected taxes may sound a bit close to home for many millennials, the immersive theatre format taps into the growing appetite for interactive experiences.
David Hutchinson, CEO of Salladoor Worldwide production, describes how trends in the entertainment sector 'are moving in a very exciting direction with demand from a new generation of theatre-goers looking to experience live theatre differently, and to be immersed in the narrative in a different way.'
After you play, head to neighbouring Monopoly-themed restaurant and bar, The Top Hat, to tuck into a menu fashioned around the famous board game’s property hotspots. Sip on cocktails with names set to test your London trivia, including the Leicester Square Red Carpet Daiquiri and the signature Mayfair Royal Sours, which comes garnished with a sugar £50 note. Best of all, you can play a life-sized 4D game of Monopoly while you’re there: build houses, charge rent, escape jai l and earn money by completing escape room-style challenges.
