We’re told that a picture is worth a thousand words – but how exactly do you find this depth of detail in a photograph? We are bombarded with photography on a daily basis, yet despite such over-exposure there is something elusive about this art form.
For those who are curious, the how to: Academy is hosting a Ways of Seeing masterclass to decode the mystery and magic of photography. The class spans classic and modern images, delving into how a photo qualifies as art, how an image’s impact relates to its subject, and how we can find meaning in what is captured with a camera.
Michael Hoppen is the expert teacher. As founder of two eponymous photography galleries, he has curated exhibitions around the world and advised the Tate. With this wealth of experience he will teach an intimate audience to look for the overlooked and develop an understanding of this medium.
