Shuffle Film Festival: Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park London
Shuffle festival, the community film festival brainchild of director Danny Boyle, returns for a third outing this July to London Tower Hamlets Park – so much more than another summer film festival.
Taking over Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, London film lovers and artists will be joining in a festival celebrating multiculturalism and migration with a series of features, Q&As and short film competitions, alongside art installations, exhibitions, multisensory experiences and, of course, delicious food.
Running from 24 July until 1 August in London's largest urban woodland, the Shuffle film festival boasts a whole week of screenings and events to attract even the most eclectic of tastes.
With 27 films showing across 3 screens, the team at Shuffle have managed to pack a great deal into the confines of the London cemetery, with highlights including screenings of The Beach and 127 Hours followed by Q&As with festival curator, director Danny Boyle on 25 and 26 July.
The films all engage in one way or another with the notion of movement, migration and place. From Ida and Four Lions to The Godfather, Sexy Beast to Lost in Translation, there's an unusual line-up that will no doubt draw crowds beyond its east London confines.
Aside from the numerous screenings, the Shuffle summer movie festival is home to live gigs, science, performance art, comedy and, curiously, 'virtual reality' in the form of multi-sensory cinema project. Users are invited to don a headset and explore different virtual realities, all pertaining to the transgressing borders.
A break from the traditional summer festivals in London
Music from up-and-coming east London bands provide the soundtrack to the events. There will also be plenty of food on offer, including the intriguing Treehouse restaurant - festivalgoers are invited to climb up and enjoy lunch or dinner at the Symbiosis restaurant, at the reasonable price of £15 for three courses. There will also be daily walks around the local areas.
One of the most unique festivals in London this summer, Danny Boyle's festival is an intriguing way to spend a weekend or a weekday evening under he shade of the park's cedar trees.
The event will run from 24 July until 1 August, with festivities beginning at 6pm on weekdays and 12pm on weekends.
