Part of the collection of Arabian Nights (as told the cruel Sultan by his new wife Scheherazade), this is the story of gutsy street lad Aladdin. He retrieves a magic lamp from the Cave of Wonders, frees a genie from the lamp thereby obliging the genie to grant him three wishes, hitches a ride on a flying carpet and gets the girl of his dreams.
Aladdin boasts lavish sets and costumes, stunning special effects and fast-paced yet simple storytelling to keep youngsters spellbound.
The aura of Oriental exoticism is bolstered by composer Carl Davis’ score, played live by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
Admittedly, Aladdin is likely one of Bintley’s less sophisticated creations; discerning dance fans should therefore expect more explosive bravado than exquisite detail in the choreography.
Still, if you are hoping to keep the children happily entertained with a spectacularly staged dance production… consider your wish granted!
