The plot explores the friendship between a girl who is obsessed with keeping things neat and tidy and a boy who most definitely doesn’t share her interest in ensuring everything is just so. Laia (Laia Sorribes) is determined to erase stains from a white wall – until her newfound friend Dot (Ezequiel Gil) invites her to dream of turning that blank canvas into a brightly coloured work of art.
Inspired by the pioneering conceptual work of the American artist Sol LeWitt, DOT combines audiovisual presentation with stunning choreography. The two Cia Maduixa performers move at the tempo and speed of the light, avoiding falling, perfectly in sync with the bespoke score that ranges from battling banjos to disco.
Its exceptional blend of precise digital projections, expressive contemporary dance and a unique score, has already garnered DOT many accolades for best children’s show throughout Europe.
Bravo, then, to Dance Umbrella for keeping younger dance fans in mind and giving Cia Maduixa and DOT a well-deserved London debut.
