The best board games for bored families
What better time to enjoy playing a board game together than the stupefying fuzziness of the Christmas period? But, before you blow the dust of the Scrabble set, why not consider something a little newer?
These six board games might all be 21st century creations, but they're still good old-fashioned fun.
Whether you like strategy or storytelling, these are bound to help beat cabin fever during Christmas and New Year. Shall we play?
What is it? An award-winning German game from 2008 that requires only a little imagination to play and contains 84 gorgeous but enigmatic little story cards.
Best for: A group of 3-6, of all ages.
How to play: Some beautifully illustrated prompt cards are dealt out, and players take it in turns to say a sentence, song lyrics or a word loosely inspired by one of their cards. People must submit a card of their own that matches the description, and everyone votes on the best interpretation.
How do I win? Be just the right amount of vague when you describe your card.
Top tip: Scoring is a little complicated, so get an adult on that.
