DIY party games for everyone
Let's get this party started with a few of our favourite family party games!
Don't switch on the television just yet – with more and more people opting to switch off and disconnect for the holidays, we suspect we'll all need some good old fashioned fun come Christmas day.
We all know Charades and Snap, but why not try some of these other great alternative party games? Some need cunning and wit, whilst others only require some pens and paper or just a single sock. Best of all, their all free (though some might cost you your dignity...)
Not a Monopoly meltdown in sight.
What is it? Family members guess the contents of your socks by tentative touch alone.
Best for: All ages, and any sized group.
You will need: Pens and paper, odd socks in different colours, a selection of odd, non-breakable objects from around the house that will fit in said socks: a pine cone, a cork, a piece of Lego, a set of dentures...
How to play:
1) Secretly put one object in each sock and knot the top.
2) Divide the party into teams of two. Each team feels the socks and tries to guess the contents. Everyone writes down their guesses.
3) At the end, swap papers and reveal the contents of each sock with a flourish.
4) Whoever guessed the most correct answers wins – and may be given a prize of a new pair of socks – or have their dentures returned to them.
How do I win? Living in the house where you're playing gives you an upper hand, of course, as you'll know some of the more random objects from the kitchen drawer.
Variation for veterans: 'What's that smell?' – Place pungent objects in jam jars covered in fabric with little holes punched in the top. Guess the objects (cheese, lavender, a sponge soaked in whisky) by their smell. Only the brave.
