ESKA is a beguiling listen, echoing with old school jazz grooves, soulful high notes, and Fairport style folk. Instrumentally, it’s a hugely varied affair; water-filled bottles, the glockenspiel and even tubular bells are all in the mix. Clearly much thought has gone into the record, and thankfully much feeling too. In the way of Bjork or Kate Bush, Eska’s eclecticism never feels contrived or shallow.
ESKA was due to play KOKO on March 31, but the show has since been rescheduled. It’s now set to take place at the Roundhouse on August 8.
