From 15 until 27 September, Slap Ya Papa, founded by foodie friends Lucie Massey and Tristan Pringle, will be hosting a two week food and music fuelled extravaganza at The Vaults, Waterloo. Slap Ya Papa's original and playful idea is to create New Orleans themed events across London, filled with sumptuous soul food and foot-stomping live jazz.
New Orleans is famed for its music; it’s credited with being the birthplace of jazz, and gave us the great Louis Armstrong and many more. But the city is no-less well known for its hearty, spiced cuisine, a delicious collision of French and Southern American culture, and Slap Ya Papa are determined to give you an authentic experience from the bayou at this London food festival.
Food, art and music
They are setting up shop this time at The Vaults, London Waterloo's underground multi-disciplinary arts platform. With events ranging from four-course dinners, to all-day brunches, to art auctions, to roaring parties, you're guaranteed to find something to take your fancy. Past events by Slap Ya Papa have encouraged diners to work off all that feel-good food on the dance floor, and this time will be no different, with live acoustic music from blues and jazz acts like Kansas Smitty.
Inside, expect a loud, bustling atmosphere and to do plenty of mingling with your fellow revellers. The supper club’s motto, taken from Maya Angelou, should give an insight into the good-time vibe they’re looking for: 'people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel'. Previous events have left diners warm of heart and full of stomach, so we have no doubt these events will sell out – book quickly.
