Blake is one to fine-tune rather than revolutionise his sound. In May of this year, after picking up a credit on Beyoncé’s Lemonade, he returned with The Colour in Anything. This is the sound of a man mastering his craft; each echo is carefully orchestrated, each faltering vocal line modulated to perfection.
This could all sound rather cool and calculated, but Blake’s too talented for that. This is an album about the fragility of relationships, reverberating with regret. Hear him play live on Hammersmith Apollo on November 1.
