Like to stay ahead of the latest in London’s street food trends? Well then head over to Kitchenette in Ladbroke Grove, the nation’s first food startup incubator, which doubles as a restaurant and plays host to the city’s most talented food entrepreneurs.
This month’s the pick of street food residencies is Kushi’s Japanese Tacos. Though they're known for their moreish grilled skewers, chef Greg Round has adapted his menu to meet the fact that there is no barbecue on the kitchenette site.
Necessity being mother to all the best inventions, Round’s solution takes the shape of crispy gyoza shells filled with delicious, umami-rich Japanese fillings. We particularly enjoyed the red miso and soy ox-cheek tacos with shiitake, accompanied by some tender Jerusalem artichoke tempura and Nori mayonnaise. A well-curated selection of wines accompanies the succulent Japanese small-plates being served up by the Kushi's team–prepare to order quite a few, as two tacos per plate will no doubt leave you hankering for more. Add to this excellent service in a stylish and atmospheric venue, and Kitchenette is definitely a cut above the rest.
Go with a group and order plenty of different plates to share; you’ll want to try them all.
