If you're looking for cheap, Michelin star restaurants, London deals with an eclectic range of haute-cuisine offerings at a fraction of the price – you just need to know where to look. The Perilla restaurant menu, from ex Noma, michelin-starred chef Ben Marks, serves up high quality food – at a fraction of the price.
There's something special going on down Lower Clapton Road next week, as the team behind Perilla – 'fine dining without the fuss' – are back for a second supperclub at their new digs in E5 – and with its credentials, it looks likely to be one of the best pop up restaurants in East London taking place next month.
Three times a night, for three nights, the team will turn out an experimental three course dining experience. Crafting the menu will be two-Michelin starred Ben Marks, formerly of Copenhagen's Noma (four-time world's best restaurant? You may have heard of it) and London's The Square, so you can expect the absolute best in modern dining, accompanied by a cocktail line-up anchored around the fantastic Jensen's Gin, distilled in London Bridge.
The simple menu features fresh, seasonal produce, including a starter of charred mackerel with a mussell remoulade, bbq cucumbers and a beach herb vinaigrette, along with an interesting combination of cauliflower mushroom, juiced walnuts and goat's curd – no doubt cooked to perfection. For mains, the team will be serving up a delectable-sounding course of slow-cooked beef with pear and lemon thyme, accompanied by baked celeriac with jerusalem artichokes and ticklemore cheese. And, for the grand finale, a simple, seasonal dish of buttermilk with wild plum and damson. Healthy, haute cuisine on the cheap – Michelin star London restaurants have a competitor in their midst, with Perilla's succulent, seasonal offerings.
That this is available for a mere £27.50 (which even includes prosecco upon arrival) is an absolute steal, so it's no surprise that the first round of tickets sold out in short order. A final batch of tickets for each of the three nights will be going on sale on Thursday, so keep an eye out on Perilla's Facebook page for further updates!
Tickets are now on sale for a 9.30 seating on all three nights. If the other seatings are anything to go by they are likely to sell out fast.
