For two decades, from 1964, a British doyenne and her third husband travelled the world, sampling its culinary delights and making friends across the globe. She was Joan, and one of those great friends she made was Emile Yenni, Governor of Beirut.
Fast-forward to 2014, this December will see Farringdon play host to Joan's Supperclub, brought to you by Andrew Rutland, founding member of the Shunt immersive theatre group. Their inaugural night is Lebanese in flavour, promising to transport you back to the 70s and through the doors of a private members club, serving up a near-east feast with a theatrical twist.
The feast begins with a vodka martini and ends with the serving up of an entire lamb, with the food prepared for you throughout by Mahmoud Mallah, grandson of Emile Yenni's own personal chef, and purveyor of 'the best Arabic food you will eat outside of Arabia', according to Joan herself.
When the dinner is done, out comes the backgammon and the shisha, while DJ Jonny Trunk, (self-)acclaimed musical archaeologist, takes you through the findings of the results of his latest Middle Eastern dig, keeping those dancing feet moving 'til 2am in the surrounds of Harrild & Sons, Farringdon's finest cocktail joint.
