As part of peace-promoting charity International Alert’s Talking Peace Festival, a month-long event series that investigates the role of dialogue in conflict resolution, Conflict Kitchen has taken over Monikers in Hoxton this September. Inspired by its American counterpart, which serves food from the countries that the U.S. is in conflict with, Conflict Kitchen aims to raise awareness for three less media-covered countries in conflict: Burma, Jordan and Peru.
While the London food scene tends to only explore Peruvian recipes from Lima or the Altiplano, chef Marlith Tenazoa Del Aguila will serve dishes from the Amazon region. Expect the likes of Juane de Yuca with fish (grated yam, mixed with Peruvian spices and filled with white fish, served with plantain and zarza criolla), and Quinoa Croquettes, served with a Pijuayo salad. Quinoa cake, Chapo ice cream and alfajores (short bread filled with custard) will be served as dessert. All proceeds go to International Alert.
