London's best park cafés
The edible pleasures of the London park
A gem of a retro-diner combining a love of Americana and Parisian bistros quietly opened by Sam, son of film director Stephen Frears and editor of London Review of Books Mary-Kay Wilmer.
The interior is by "Lady Jane" of the Rolling Stones track and the juke box compiled by Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. Yet it is very low key, cosy and friendly with banquette seating and a couple of outside tables. Best of all are all day breakfasts and house made scones, both Sam's favourites. The salmon fishcake with lemon and garlic spinach, poached egg and hollandaise is exemplary and better still with heritage tomato and goat's curd salad followed by raspberry tart. There's a thoughtful choice of vegan dishes too.
Look out for the likes of Helen Bonham-Carter sharing a booth.
Evening supper clubs are promised soon.
