Who doesn't crave a life blessed with a brush of the glamour of Federico Fellini's 'La Dolce Vita'? Those dresses, cocktails, a midnight dash though the Trevi Fountain. We can't promise time travel or the warmth of Rome, yet the arrival of Harry's Dolci themed all around 50s and 60s Italy and open breakfast through dinner has huge allure. Even more so when it's a sister venture to Harry's Bar in Mayfair, and another name on the list of restaurants owned by the ever elegant Caprice Holdings group (The Ivy Sexy Fish et al)
Harry's Dolci, an Italian all-day dining restaurant just around the corner from Harrods in Knightsbridge, will, of course, be serving up bellinis in a nod to the original Harry's Bar in Venice. The menu promises to encompass all our favourite Italian dishes from linguine vongole, pappardelle al rage bolognese to a whole seabass baked in a paper bag with fennel, rosemary and Amalfi lemon. Burrata with truffles sounds outrageously good too. Given the restaurant's name, the dessert list will be abundant including gelato, cannoli, tiramisù and granita with shaved ice.
The room promises colourful Murano glass, silky autumnal coloured Fortuny fabrics, vintage brass fixtures and rich tanned leather bar stools, chairs and banquettes. Photography and artwork celebrating la dolce vita will adorn the walls.
Italian elegance will weave its way into the Harry’s Dolci drinks list in the form a grappa trolley which will circle the room offering diners an aperitif or digestif. Joining the trolley will be a list of exceptional Italian wines, and classic cocktails with a “dolci” twist.
Here's to a winter of nostalgia.
