Sushi and sashimi, udon and izikaya: how to do Japan in London
Lovers of sashimi rejoice, at Sushi Atelier it is raised to an art form, yet without too much pomp. Served on a chunky Japanese ceramic, there's: tuna with soy-marinated wasabi, which gives a gentle kick of heat right at the end; a mix of diced sea bass and butterfish, fresh with green chilli; and salmon, splashed with yuzu, soy and sesame oil. The perfect trio.
Momentarily seared scallops served on a green sauce are sublime too, as are the almost translucent, delicate pork gyoza, and the 'blow-torched' tuna served on a delicate ponzu jelly.
Sushi is superlative too – served just warm as it should be. The rice is so perfect, the dextrous can pick out individual grains with a chopstick.
Price: £120.00 for dinner for two with sake
