The 10 best places to dine in art galleries and museums
Now the museum/art gallery dining room is as exciting as the post exhibition shop
An unexpected leafy enclave close to Lambeth Bridge, the Garden Café is a new build overlooking a Dan Pearson designed courtyard garden within The Garden Museum (devoted to garden history).
Not only is the Scandic-Modern design beautiful with concrete floor inlaid with tombstones from the cemetery formerly on the site, but the chefs are super-talented and create beautiful dishes with no more than three main components, letting the ingredients sing.
George Ryle joins from Padella, whilst Harry Kaufman was at Lyles and St John's Bread and Wine. The menu changes constantly, always ultra-seasonal and elegantly presented. Expect dishes such as: courgette, tarragon, salted ricotta, chicken liver with wild hops; skate win with seabees and shrimps; rainbow chard with chicory and tallegio gratin; flourless chocolate cake; and cherry tart. It's only a shame, The Garden Cafe is presently only open for dinner Tuesday and Friday evenings (though all day during the rest of the wee)k. The space is available for private hire too.
Price: £80.00 for two including drinks
