Your first contact with the festival will be the site-specific installation on the façade of the Coronet Theatre, created by the artist Cheng Tsu Feng, whose creations encompass large-scale pavilions and objet d’art made from bamboo (pictured top). An in-demand artist, Cheng has had commissions from Hermès, Cartier, Loewe, Bottega Veneta, Apple, Nike and HBO.
The full festival programme can be found here. Below is a selection of events that caught our eye:
--- Most intriguing of the lot, and already an Edinburgh Fringe hit, is Chou Kuan-Jou's Tomato. Created by the choreographer Chou for herself and two other dancers and involving a mountain of tomatoes, this dance theatre piece is billed as 'a provocative and experimental exploration of gender issues'. --- The experimental theatre group Riverbed Theatre marks its UK debut with two pieces: its 360 VR experience All That Remains, winner of the Best Immersive Experience Award at the 2023 Luxembourg City Film Festival, which will be on show throughout the two weeks; and taking it down and putting it up, a collage of physical theatre, dance, opera, video projection with music composed by Yujun Wang and live visual art from Carl Johnson, which is billed as 'a poetic meditation on connection, loss and renewal, using the human body as sculpture'. Thu 25 to Sat 27 April at 19:30. Dur.: 50 mins. Tickets ££20 - 30.
--- Yujun Wang, Dawn to Dawn – multi-disciplinarian music artist Yujun Wang launches her new album, Dawn to Dawn. She transposes her observations of everyday life into music that documents complex emotional states. Tue 16 & Wed 17 April at 19:30. Dur.: 50 mins approx. Tickets: £20 - 30.
