The artistic director at the sumptuous Italian design brand Driade, David Chipperfield, turns his hand to a new series of cabinets and consoles at David Gill Gallery, King Street which are making us sit up and pay attention.
David Chipperfield exhibition
An architect by trade, Chipperfield fills his designs with angular geometry and careful restraint which is enticing. The Ionic collection you'll find on display gives a nod to his architectural background with the bronze skeletons, supported by blackened steel trays and strengthened ribbed glass.
What's the big deal?
With previous furniture projects for Cassina and B&B Italia behind him, this new collaboration promises to be as innovative - though it's Chipperfield first endeavour with a gallery. For the first time he strays from commercial conventions and allows his utilitarian objects to shine for their physical presence and beauty.
