Some of the best books by women for International Women's Day

This is the year to read Muriel Spark: the 100th year anniversary of her birth (1918 for the right-brained) fell this year on 1 February and celebrations continue.
Spark is known for her absurd prose – her books are downright odd. We love this misfit, who did what we've always dreamed of doing and moved to Tuscany as soon as she possibly could. Despite abandoning her fellow Glaswegians, they are leading celebrations this year.
Start with The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, or look out for The Ballad of Peckham Rye (terribly hip to read on the overground)
