Henning Wehn, self-proclaimed German Comedy Ambassador to the UK, comes to Leicester Square Theatre for three special Christmas shows this December.
Wehn is one of the biggest names on the alternative stand-up comedy circuit. He’s a TV panel-show stalwart and was earlier this year one of fourteen comedians to feature in Comedy Central’s critically acclaimed 'Alternative Comedy Experience’, curated by comic Stewart Lee.
Henning Wehn’s Authentic German Christmas Do promises (in his own words) “meticulously planned and perfectly executed stand-up routines” alongside “the Fatherland’s most favourite Christmas carols, such as Oh Tannenbaum, Stille Nacht – heilige Nacht, and Klingglöckchen klingelingelingelingelingelingelingeling”. Sound twee? Think again.
His comedy explores British and German cultural tics with an intelligence you’re unlikely to find in any other comedian exploiting this old trope. His schtick is cross-cultural clashes, and there’s a wrily self-conscious Germanness to his onstage persona which allows him to indulge an audience’s appetite for stereotypes before demolishing them at their foundations. It’s a delicately choreographed act that alternately pulls audiences close and pushes them away – thoughtfully, playfully and irresistibly done.
Wehn is at the top of his game at the moment, with this limited Christmas run coming on the back of his sold-out 2013 tour Henning Knows Bestest. These three nights will sell out too, so get your tickets while you can.
Tickets: £12.50 / £10.50
