The Mighty Boosh as you’ve never seen it before: until Sunday 1 December, Proud Camden’s photo exhibition lifts the lid on one of the most successful TV comedies of the last decade.
Behind the Boosh is a series of stills by cast member Dave Brown, better known in the series as Bollo the monkey, which lift the lid on the multiple NME and Chortle award-winning, synthpop-and-papier-maché-fuelled world of protagonists Howard Moon and Vince Noir.
Brown’s photos – taken throughout the Boosh’s three TV series and four US and UK tours - chart the show’s course from its Edinburgh Fringe origins 15 years ago to BBC3 cult oddity status in 2004 and the viral success of ensuing series and tours. It’s a must-see for any fan of the technicolour eccentricity of Noel Fielding’s props, set and costume– the ‘art school degree show’ design aesthetic that won it such a strong indie following. From close-ups of the hourlong make-up sessions that went into realising the Boosh’s most famous characters, to shots of the cast wrangling the giant rubber head of Fielding’s swamp- creation Old Greg: this is a rare insight into how Fielding’s characters were conceived and constructed, and an unmissable side of the Boosh you won’t have seen before.
