Where is Coco Chanel's apartment?

For the first time ever, a glimpse into the private living space of the world’s most famous fashion icon will be made available to the public through a series of photographs shot by artist Sam Taylor-Wood. The Turner Prize nominee’s thirty-four photographs, intimately capturing the private space and treasured possessions of Mademoiselle Chanel’s historic Rue Cambon apartment, will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery this September. 

What to expect

The photographs highlight sumptuous furnishings such as the salon's rock-crystal chandeliers and walls stacked with leather bound editions including Shakespeare, Voltaire, Byron and Bronte, as well as talismanic objects such as her crystal balls and paired animals. Details also include the numbers and patterns that are that are synonymous with Mademoiselle Chanel's creative vocabulary, such as No.5, the double C and the initials GW (Gabrielle and Westminster).

Speaking of the experience, Taylor Wood said: "Shooting at Coco Chanel's apartment was an unexpectedly absorbing experience. The essence of Chanel is firmly rooted there in all of her possessions, and I truly believe that her spirit and soul still inhabit the second floor."
