The first festival organised by charity and members’ club The House of St Barnabas, Art Social ’14 is a four-day cultural smörgåsbord
Charity and members' club House of St Barnabas have curated a summer festival of music, talks and contemporary art, from Thursday to Sunday.
You can look forward to a collaboration between kitschy artist and animator Margot Bowman and electronic musician Actress that uses colour, animation and audience interaction. There will also be live music from singer-songwriter Tom Baxter .
On Thursday you can see artist and HoSB founding member Gavin Turk, whom we interviewed earlier this year, in conversation with actor and musician Richard Strange; there’ll also be a talk on “Art in the Public Realm”, which will explore this art and its audience.
Friday sees a debate hosted by journalist Hannah Pool on “perceptions of the socially excluded”, and the importance of the latter’s access to artistic outlets; Peckham Platform’s Barby Asante will also be speaking about the relevance of black intellectual and radical thought that burgeoned in post-WWII London. Over the weekend there’ll be talks and workshops on subjects ranging from architecture to meditation to concept art. Event prices range from free to £12.50, with most events costing no more than a tenner. All proceeds from the event will go into rehabilitating London’s homeless population.
