Homeland first came out in 2011. Inspired by the events surrounding 9/11, it told the story of a Central Intelligence Agency operations officer (Claire Danes) who was put on probation and resigned to the CIA's Counterterrorism Centre after conducting an unauthorised operation in Iraq. It was a sensation, the most talked about TV show of the year, and still used as a reference point for TV today.
Season six episode one is out on Channel4 now. It takes place several months after the previous season, now that Carrie is back in the United States, living in Brooklyn, New York. She now works at a foundation attempting to provide aid to Muslims living in the United States -- and presciently aired takes place between election day and inauguration day.
Homeland continues to be relevant -- especially in the era of Trump.
